Thomas Moore House
Believed to be the second oldest surviving house in town (after the log cabin on the banks of the Brandywine). The Thomas Moore House was built around 1720 as a personal residence. It was converted to an inn, or "Tea House" prior to the Revolutionary War. According to legend, George Washington never slept here, but he did stop for a cup of tea.
During the Civil War era, the Thomas Moore House was used as part of the "Underground Railroad" network to hide slaves who escaped from the South.
